2018 Newsletter 4: The Indian Anthropocene
I am slowly making my way towards Indian philosophy.....
An unthinking response to planetary conditions - whether globalization or climate change or anything else - is to assume that those conditions envelop us uniformly. 400 parts per million is the same in Kansas and Kathmandu, right?
In fact, I think a much better response is to assume the exact opposite: that the planetary manifests itself in a million minor tragedies. The anthropocene looks very different from India than it does from the west (that's the link to this week's essay).
As usual, comments are welcome.
